Eldon is Named The 2011 Outstanding Agriculture Education Program by the Missouri Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association

Matt Biddle, Gary Reichel and Adam Wolf, agriculture instructors and the Eldon school district were recognized with the Outstanding Agriculture Education Program Award for their accomplishments during the Missouri Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association (MVATA) Conference in Springfield, Missouri this summer.  The Outstanding Agriculture Education Program Award is given to the top agriculture education program for their teachers’ involvement in professional activities and meeting the educational needs of their students.  The award also takes into account community service projects, FFA chapter and student successes, and the positive influence the agriculture program has on the school and community. 

The George Clarke Missouri State Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation sponsors the award and presented a plaque and cash award to the recipients at the MVATA banquet.

MVATA is a professional agriculture education teacher association that has more than 469 members serving 324 schools.

Eldon FFA Pool Party

FFA Pool Party

On June 14th the annual FFA pool party was held at the Eldon pool. The annual summer meeting was held at the Eldon Airpark. Following the meeting, food was served and members were free to swim. Incoming freshmen were also invited and enjoyed the swim party.

2011 Mustang Football Summer Team Camp

The 2011 Mustang Football Summer Team Camp will be held Monday through Friday, July 25 -29 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.  This camp will be for  freshmen through seniors to prepare for the upcoming season.  The camp will structured to give each player an opportunity to show his skills to the varsity staff.  All sessions will be held on the varsity practice field at the Eldon Middle School.  All athletes should wear shorts, a t-shirt and football cleats.  Cost of the camp is $25 (fee includes camp t-shirt)

FFA Learn to Trim Hams


Mike Wyss, owner and operator of the Russellville Meat Locker volunteered his time to help Eldon FFA members trim their country cured hams. Fall Sports Physical Night

Sports physicals for all fall sports will be offered on  Tuesday, July 26th at 6:00 p.m. at the old gym (across the street from the Career Center) on the High School Campus.  This is open to any area student, not just Eldon students.  The cost of the physical is $20.  This price is good on this night only.  Physical forms will be available that night.

Eldon Career Center Students Win National SkillsUSA Bronze Medals

Seven Eldon Career Center Students competed at the National SkillsUSA Championships held in Kansas City, Missouri June 20-25, 2011. Heather Schulte, Ashley Wyrick, Kayla Hogan, and Lu Sheremeta won the Bronze medal in Health Knowledge Bowl. The Health Knowledge Bowl competition tests teams of four students on their collective knowledge of health occupations. Teams are judged on speed and accuracy answering questions in nine categories. Gregory Bond placed 5th in Technical Drafting; Mersades Balch placed 5th in Health Occupations Professional Portfolio, and Kenny Dickneite earned 7th place in Marine Services.  The instructors whom coached the students for the national event were Becky Dickerson, Health Occupations; Rick White, Design Drafting; and Sonny Farris, Marine Services.

There were over 5500 contestants competing in 94 skill and leadership competitions. The Championships requires a massive amount of equipment and materials, including more than 850 computers, 50 trucks, 9,500 bricks and 1,500 blocks, 60 stoves, and complete laboratories for machining, welding, and auto repair and painting.  The SkillsUSA Championships is the national-level competition for public high school and college/postsecondary technical students enrolled in career and technical education programs. SkillsUSA organizes this event, and it is considered the single greatest day of industry volunteerism in America every year at an estimated cost of more than $35 million. Each SkillsUSA Championships contestant is a state-level gold medalist.

 Last week the Eldon FFA Chapter attended FFA Camp at Camp Rising Sun on the Lake of the Ozarks. The camp theme was “Extreme Leadership!” During the week campers attended sessions and workshops focusing on discovering who they are, setting goals for the future, and learning how to utilize and help the people around them. Along with leadership and personal development activities members had the opportunity to participate in volleyball, softball, basketball, badminton, trapshooting, and spending time at the waterfront. The campers also had the attended the Main Street Music Opry. Four members: Rachel Groves, Riley Franklin, Jon Engelmeyer, Thomas Kriegshauser received their State Leadership Award. The rituals team of Patrick Souders, Meriah Dinwiddie, Rachel Groves, Riley Franklin, Jonathan Bertolotti, and Laura Apperson won 2nd place. Patrick Souders was awarded all-around camper. Rachel Groves was selected to the Camp Treasurer for the week.
