Meeting of the Board of Education September 20, 2010 

The regular meeting of the Board of Education was called to order at 6:30 p.m. 

CONSENT AGENDA

Approved on the consent agenda were:

¨       Approval of Minutes

¨       Payment of Bills

¨       Substitute List Additions

Old Business:

New Business:

¨       The Board approved payments to:

Susan Kriegshauser – Mike Kriegshauser abstaining

¨       The Board approved recognizing The Eldon Baseball and Softball Association and the Eldon Athletic Club each, as a group affiliated with the District.

¨       The Board approved the request to allow .5 credits for a Health class to be embedded in the Health Occupations Class offered at Eldon Career Center.

¨       The Board heard the Special Education Report.

¨       The Board heard the Bullying Report.

¨       The Board approved entering into an agreement with ESPY Services.

¨       The Board approved entering into an additional services agreement with Architects Alliance for work on the Middle School Sports Complex.

 ELDON SCHOOL DISTRICT VISION STATEMENT

The Eldon School District will foster a sense of pride through our professional learning community.  We will focus on the needs and achievements of all learners.  We will support and build upon the strengths of our students, staff, parents and community to promote excellence through education.

Marching Mustangs do well at the St. James Grape and Fall Festival

On Saturday, the Eldon High School Marching Mustangs competed in the St. James Grape and Fall Festival Parade.  This year’s parade was dedicated to Jessica Brinker, the St. James Band member who died in the tragic bus accident in August.  In conjunction with this dedication, all eleven bands who attended the day’s festivities joined in playing an arrangement of “God of our Fathers” before the parade began.  Following the parade, the St. James Chamber of Commerce treated all participating bands to lunch.  The outpouring of support from the community and surrounding area was evident by the very large crowd the entire length of the parade.  What a tremendous experience for our students to be able to lend their support as the St. James Band family continues to heal from their recent tragedy.  Following are the parade competition results.  The Marching Mustangs placed 1^st in their division, being judged on music fundamentals, music general effect, marching fundamentals, and marching general effect.  Also, the EHS Drumline received the Overall Best Drumline Award and the EHS Color Guard received the Overall Best Auxiliary Award.  The band’s next performance will be in the EHS Homecoming Festivities this Friday.

Football team supports the Owen Stark Benefit Spaghetti Dinner

High School Principal Ryan Neal and the Varsity Football Staff and players were fortunate to have the best pregrame meal of the year with Owen Stark.  The team walked over to the First Christian Church to join the family in effort to raise money for Owen’s recovery efforts!  “This was one of the most rewarding experiences I have had as a coach”  Coach Jolley    “Our kids represented our school in the best way possible”  We felt privileged to be a part of such a special event!

Patriot’s Day Ceremony

The Eldon Upper Elementary Student Council invites the public to a Patriot’s Day Ceremony on Friday, September 10th at 9:00 a.m.  This will take place on the pavement between South Elementary and Upper Elementary.  This is an opportunity to honor the heroes who serve our country every day.

Project Prom Meeting

A project prom meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 14th, at 6:00 PM in the middle school commons. All Junior and Senior Parents are invited and any other parents that may be interested in helping out are also invited to attend. Please come and help us kick off the planning and fund raising for the 2011 Project Prom for our students. Help us to make it the best one yet! Eldon Football Homecoming

2010 Homecoming Week, September 12-17th

Activities will be held all next week in celebration of this year’s Homecoming.  The week will conclude with the pep assembly and parade on Friday at 1:30 p.m., followed by the Queen coronation and football game at 7:00 PM.  2010 Homecoming King candidates are; Cannon Carlock, Cole Griffith, Kory McPheeters, Barry (Dalton) Oden, and Nathan Wilson.  Queen candidates are; McKenzie Anderson, Kara Harwood, Kayla Hogan, Kelsi Mueller, and Abbey Thomas. 

Father/Son Event

On Saturday August 21^st the Eldon Football Team attended the 1^st annual “Father Son” Team Activity at Coach Jolley’s home.  Football players invited a male role model in their life to accompany them to the team building activity.  The barbeque was followed by fishing, pitching horse shoes, and playing football.  The evening was capped off with formal introductions and a team video at the end of the night!

Eldon Students Attend MSHSAA Summit

This August we were fortunate to send six of our student athletes to the MSHSAA Sportsmanship Summit in St. Charles.  The student athletes are from right to left. Megan Humphry, Kara Harwood, Jesse Bond, Cory Mason, Mason Farris, Cannon Carlock, and Officer Thomas Wright (sponsor).  The students participated in group conferences and break out sessions with students from across the state of Missouri.  The conference is focused on promoting sportsmanship and leadership qualities in athletics!

Veterans Recognition Night

The Eldon School District will be honoring the military on Friday, September 3rd during halftime of the football game against Westran High School.  All current and former military will have free entry into the game that evening.  Jim McDevitt, Chief Warrant Officer of the Army National Gurard will be delivering the game ball for the evening.  Mr. McDevitt will be flying a Vietnam era OH-58 helicopter.  He is a 1995 Eldon Alumni.
